    1. What impact did the unification of Germany have on Europe and the world?
    2. Who was Otto von Bismarck? What part did he play in the unification of Germany?
    3. The developed world was facing a crisis at the end of the nineteenth century.  Whywas Europe moving toward Armageddon? 
    4. How did Science and technology alter popular perceptions in the late nineteenth century? Has Darwin, and the reliance on science, waned today?
    5. It is possible to argue that European society was entering a crisis by century’s end. Why was that? What was happening to create a sense of fear and trepidation at that time?
    6. What opportunities did women in both Europe and the United States have in the mid to late nineteenth century? How has the situation changed for women as a result of the pioneering work of assertive women?
