Dictators and Demagogues
Welcome to Dictators and Demagogues. The course is designed to cover the turbulent world of the 1930s from the Wall Street Crash to the coming of the Second World War. The course will look at the crucial historical figures of the decade too, including Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, Roosevelt, Churchill and such minor characters as Huey Long, Oswald Mosely, and Father Coughlin. Even more important, the class will examine how the economic upheaval resulting from the Great Depression created the political and social climate for spread of fascism, raising the possible specter of the collapse of western democracy. This page will provide information concerning the required essay question, reading assignments, grades, bibliography, books, course requirements, PowerPoint presentations, and pre and post test results.
