Jacobins

Political party that emerged as a result of the French Revolution and militantly favored a republican government for France. The Jacobins were ably led by Maximilien Robespierre, the Lenin of the French Revolution. Infiltrated existing organizations on the Parisian and provincial level. Used the workers, the Sans Culottes, as their shock troops to intimidated their class enemies as well as the organs of the First Republic to terrorize their opponents. Small and centered in Paris and relied upon the educated elite and militant working class to maintain position in France as well as the Guillotine and the Revolutionary Tribunals/Committee of Public Safety/ General Security to retain power.
