Graduate Assignments

MA Students:
MA students will write a comparative book review essay over six books, four of which can come from the books used in the class and the other two from the expanded reading list found on this site. The paper shall be no more than fifteen and no less than ten double-space pages in length. All papers should follow the guidelines set by Kate L. Turabian A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses and Dissertations. For graduate students not familiar with writing a comparative book review, they are encouraged to examine a copy of either the New York Review of Books or the New York Times Book Review, which are both available online. Graduate students will also participate in a group project and will be evaluated by the level of discourse they provide on the web. If you do not know how to write the review essay use the hyperlink which will help.
MAT Students:
MAT students will write a book review essay over three books, and should follow the same guidelines listed above; however, two of the three books can come from the books used in the course. They will also participate in the group project and the lively discussions that will take place on the net during the assigned times for their learning community. Finally, MAT students will also produce a unit plan. The unit plan should include the following: an introductory essay of five pages or so to explain your unit; an annotated bibliography of texts, VHS/DVDs that you would use, as well as links to valuable internet sites of some importance; test bank questions; sample exercises; demonstration of the use of technology in the classroom; and how you will meet either the Kansas or National History Standards.
