Welcome to History of Terrorism. The course is designed for both undergraduates and graduate students interested in the evolution of political terrorism. With each passing day, the public becomes aware of the dangers posed by terrorist organizations, often acting in the name of the people.  The renowned German military theorist Karl von Clausewitz noted in his landmark study, On War ,  war is a continuation of politics by other means; consequently, terrorism is war fought in the shadows by a far different set of rules. The course will examine the development of terrorism from the ancients to the dawn of the twenty-first century. Likewise, the course will review the response to terrorism including the issue of homeland security and the challenges of meeting the terrorist threat while maintaining our civil liberties. Finally, the class will review the seeds of terrorism, involving an examination of the cultural, economic, and political factors which make terrorism possible today. This page will also include the required the original History of Terrorism site, texts, bibliography, filmography, glossary, terrorist organizations, early terrorist organizations, first midterm Final Exam,  links, class organization, undergraduate and graduate assignments, class schedule, group projects, PowerPoint presentations and proposed online meeting dates and times.
