World War II Assignments
Examinations There will be two take-home examinations during the course of the course. All exams will follow essay form and can be found on the this site and students are encouraged to check the site before or after each class. The essay will involve answering one question from the list following each lecture. All tests are worth 100 points. The take-essay should be typed and double spaced and run at least five typed pages. Book Review Besides the examinations, each undergraduate will write a book review over one (1) of the outside readings or from the World War II Bibliography provided by the professor and found on his webpage. The book review will be equal to one (1) examination and shall be no less than five (5) typed pages. Attendance Students are expected to attend class and are notified that attendance will be taken and attendance will count toward a student’s grade. Attendance points will be prorated perfected attendance will be rewarded by 100 points. After each subsequent absence, 20 points will be reduced from those 100 points. The scale of attendance points is as follows: Zero Absences 100 points; One 80 points; Two 60 points, Three 40 points; Four 20 points; Five 0 points. Grades Unlike other disciplines at other institutions, students enrolled in World War II will be evaluated by a standard distribution and not a curve. The distribution will follow a 90, 80, 70, 60 percentile ranking system from the 400 points that are available to all students. Students are reminded that the evaluation process is solely based on the merit of each individual and not arbitrarily established. Plus and minus grading will not be used in HI425. Two Exams = 200 points Book Review = 100 points Attendance = 100 points No Final Option Students have the option of not taking the final examination if they wish; however, they would have to agree to meet with the professor outside of class, on Thursday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. and discuss not only the books used in the class but at least six other books from the extensive reading list provided by the professor on the first day of class.
