World War II Roundtable
The fall meeting of the ESU World War II Roundtable will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kanza Room of the ESU Memorial Union. First Lieutenant Virginia S. Visser, Army Nurse Corps, a former resident of Emporia, will give a presentation entitled, "A Call To Service.'" Admission is free and lecture is open to the public. For further information call 620-342-1895. The ESU World War II Roundtable's Spring Movie Presentation will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 408 Plumb Hall. The film, "The Battle of Midway" will be shown, with commentary by Loren Pennington and Cpl. Joseph Markowitz of Olpe, Kansas. Mr. Markowitz was a Fleet Marine gunner aboard the carrier, USS Enterprise at the Battle of Midway that changed the course of the war in the Pacific. The film screening is free and open to the public. For additional information call (620) 342-1895. The Roundtable is open to everyone in Emporia -- students, veterans, and World War II enthusiasts. The first presentation was given by Dr. Chris Lovett and his topic was Operation DOWNFALL: The Plans for the invasion of Japan.
